Controversial Journal: Shipping

I'm gonna keep making these. I want people to know my stances on these things, and I want to see if other people share or disagree with, since calmly sharing your opinions without jumping down someone's throat is in fact, a thing!

Do not ship underage (anything under 18) characters with adults.

Do not ship something that is abusive consistently. (Example: Archie/Maxie, Bill/Stanford, or Reverse!Falls, which has "Will" constantly is portrayed as a prisoner to the twins and is berated all the time, hit, and raped.)

Do not ship real people. Ever. This is not to be bargained with in any form, aside from real couples.

Do not ship something that is aged up that has no purpose other than to have them aged up because "U THINK IT'S HAWT".

NO INCEST. STOP IT NOW. STOP. STOP.


Now, onto some "do"s.

Do ship something if it has proper impact on the storyline you're going for. (Note, this is regardless of some wrong acts. There are vanilla ships that have no real drama, but a lot of writers add drama to give the story some spice. _{Example: How the main character in "Matched" was in two relationships at once, without telling the other. This was used to test her character, what she believed in, what she thought was right. It was wrong of her to have two relationships at once, and she severely hurt one of them, but it was needed to show the struggles she had with her ACTUAL personality.}))

Do ship aged up things if the personalities work together, if it's used to further their story, or if it's used to show how a character is making growth as they go. _{(For example, I ship Mabill, but I would absolutely never ship canonical Bill and Mabel, that's disgusting, and wrong. I ship it, because of the story we have with it, and how the characters play off of each other, she's helping him, he's learning from her. How he's learning is impacting a HUGE part of Lemonnation, as it's a multiverse thing, and there's going to be some interesting results down the road with the whole "prophecy" thing. There's story, growth, personality, and dynamic. I'm not shipping it because "LOLZ ITS CUTE", it's what's happening in the line of fire. If you're going to ship aged up things, please be sure to have an ACTUAL reason to do it, and keep sexual things as a minimum, rare thing. [Fun is one thing, smut and just plain excuses are another. Watch yourselves.])}

Do ship ALTERNATE UNIVERSE versions of things, so long as they are consensual and aged appropriately. Alternate universes are supposed to be fun, and you should be able to alter personalities as you please in them, at least, to a certain degree! Think Lemongrab and Sidney. There's no way in canon they'd be together with three children at this point, or his brother be alive. It's part of storytelling, so don't worry about changing some things.

Do ship things if you're coping, but keep it on the down low, you don't want to come off as you're SUPPORTING what's going wrong here, unless it's portrayed correctly and calmly.

A lot of people seem to think that characters are incapable of change in certain AUs, or even in canon, but we've seen a lot of it.

Gideon from Gravity Falls showed he could change, not too much, but he's not at all the controlling little brat he was before.
The ENTIRE PLOT OF THE LION KING 2. Kovu was groomed from an early age to trick, manipulate and murder. He changed over time with the help of Kiara, an UNKNOWN amount of time, to love, to learn, to grow personally. That's PERFECTLY alright to portray in your stories, and in your ships.
Peridot was a HUGE BITCH at first, we didn't like her, she was mean, she tried to kill Steven and the Gems multiple times, but she had a redemption arc, now she's an angry little slice of pie.
Beast from Beauty And The Beast was a selfish, horrifying monster, and over an UNKNOWN and UNSPECIFIED amount of time, he started learning, developing emotions again, and feeling love for the first time.

Stop portraying characters as one dimensional when they show potential for different acts.

I'm sorry, I just had to say this, I get tired of people VAGUELY posting about me, or asking me how I feel on the subject of it, this is my two cents, and that's just-- how I feel about it. Please note, I do ship some things out of coping, and I understand where people are coming from. Just make sure you're a proper tagger, and don't flail around actual abusive, incestuous, or going to harm someone else!
